Sustainability trends in the frits and ceramics industry

The Frits and Ceramics sector is very gas intensive and relies on large amounts of energy for the manufacture of frits and glazes. Although this is such an innovative sector, the main companies have already assumed the need to develop more sustainable products and optimize those that are not. We focus the development of sustainable products and processes on the following points:

Introduction of byproducts from other industries in their production processes to promote the circular economy, using these byproducts that usually end up in waste treatment plants as raw material for the manufacture of frits and enamels.

Development of water-based digital printing inks. One of the main products in which the industry invests are the inks that its customers use to print designs on top of ceramic pieces. These inks are evolving towards water-based inks.

Development of new digital applications of enamels and engobes in order to optimize the amount of material needed for the manufacture of the flooring or coating, frit and enamel manufacturers in collaboration with machinery manufacturers have developed enamels and engobes applicable via digital printers.

Reduction in the consumption of oils and glycols traditionally used in screen-printed vehicles, which have fallen considerably in sales due to the change in the trend towards digitalization and sustainability in the sector.

Investment in solar panels or cogeneration plants.

Reduction of CO2 emissions by optimizing production processes.
